Some data sources — like PSA for graded cards and IGDB for video games — are run by third parties who gate their APIs behind a developer key and a usage quota. Vaultry lets you bring your own key (BYOK) so those live lookups run under your account with your quota.
Why BYOK
The free auto-fill sources (VIN, ISBN, MTG, Pokémon, Comic Vine, UPC) need nothing from you — see Auto-fill from VIN, ISBN & UPC. BYOK is for the keyed services, where the provider limits how many lookups are allowed. Using your own key means your lookups aren't competing with anyone else's.
Connect a key
- Get a developer key from the provider (for example, register for a PSA developer token — it takes a couple of minutes).
- In Vaultry, open Settings → Integrations.
- Paste your key for that integration and save.
- Live lookups for that source now run through your key.
Good to know
- PSA's public API is heavily rate-limited. Even with your own key, live single-cert lookups are best-effort. For an existing PSA collection, importing your PSA inventory CSV is faster and more reliable.
- Connecting an integration may carry a small monthly fee — see the Integrations page and Pricing for the current details.
- Manual entry is always free on every plan. You never need a key to catalog an item; BYOK just speeds up the ones that support it.
