The camera scanner is the fastest way to add items. Point it at a barcode, and Vaultry decodes it, fills in what it can, and (for supported types) looks up the full record. It works on a phone's camera and on a computer's webcam, and it really shines when you install Vaultry as an app.
What you can scan
- Graded slabs — PSA, PCGS, NGC, CGC, and SGC. The scanner reads the Code 128 barcode or the QR code on newer slabs.
- Books — ISBN / EAN-13 barcodes for title, author, and cover art.
- Vehicles — the 17-character VIN (as a barcode or typed) to decode make, model, and year.
- Retail products — UPC barcodes.
- Your own QR labels — the labels Vaultry prints, so you can pull up an item instantly during an audit.
How to scan
- On an item form, tap Scan next to a supported field (for cards, that's the Certification Number).
- Point the camera at the barcode. Tap anywhere to focus, pinch to zoom, and toggle the torch in low light.
- The scanner confirms a read with a beep and a green flash (plus a haptic buzz on phones), fills the field, and — for slabs, ISBNs, and VINs — runs the lookup automatically.
Scan a whole batch
Turn on Continuous Scan to have the camera reopen after every save. Combined with Bulk Add (Pro and up) and its saved templates, a binder of graded cards moves about as fast as you can flip pages.
Tips
- Good, even light and a steady hand beat zooming in too far.
- If a slab won't read, tilt it slightly to kill glare on the barcode, or type the number and tap Lookup instead.
- Graded-card lookups depend on the grading service's API. For PSA specifically, live single-cert lookups are best-effort — if you have a lot of PSA cards, importing your PSA inventory CSV is usually faster and more reliable.
