Your data is yours, and Vaultry makes it easy to keep your own copy. A backup is a complete snapshot — every item, every field, and all your photos — that you can download and, if ever needed, restore.
Back up
- Open Manage Data in the app.
- Choose Back up to generate a complete ZIP of your data and photos.
- Download it and keep it somewhere safe — an external drive or your own cloud storage.
Vaultry also takes automated daily backups on every plan, so there's a recent snapshot even if you forget. Downloading your own copy on top of that is the belt-and-suspenders move before any big change.
Restore
- In Manage Data, choose Restore and upload a backup ZIP.
- Vaultry verifies it and streams the restore, showing live progress.
Why only your backup restores
Every backup ZIP is cryptographically signed and locked to your account (an HMAC-SHA256 signature tied to your tenant ID). Vaultry will reject a backup from any other account on restore. This protects you: nobody can push their data — or tampered data — into your vault. The flip side is that if you delete your account, that account's ID is destroyed and its old backups can no longer be restored anywhere.
Backup vs. CSV export vs. import
These sound similar but do different things:
- Backup / Restore — a full, signed snapshot including photos, meant to recover your whole account. Restores only from your own backup.
- CSV export — a spreadsheet of your item data (no photos), on every plan, so you can analyze it or take it elsewhere.
- CSV import — brings a spreadsheet in, adding items to a collection. See Import a CSV.
If you're recovering your account, you want Restore. If you're moving a spreadsheet in, you want Import.
You can always leave with your data
Every paid plan includes CSV export and full backups, so you're never locked in — you can take a complete copy of your collection with you at any time.
